If you are a successful planner, this will be a good check-up on your system. If you are not as good at it as you wish to be, this system will give you a whole new lease on life. It will send you leaps ahead. Its originator was James G. Harboard, the former chairman of the board of the Radio Corporation of America. It has stood the test of time. Here is his formula.
1. Decide what it is that you want to accomplish. This will help you to define your goals and then you can decide from day to day, hour by hour whether you are spending your time with your goals in mind.
2. Make an inventory of your resources. You have your own time, resourcefulness, initiative and enthusiasm. You have the ability to train, supervise and motivate others and many other abilities that the average person never really puts to work.
3. Analyze the nature of the forces that can be expected to create opposition. Consider that it might be because of your own inertia, irregularity, lack of motivation or determination. These
are things you can learn to deal with. You may discover that there is a specific skill you need to accomplish your goals, and deal with it as you go along.
4. Decide on a strategy and set up a road map and timetable for success. Set up a system for checking on your progress.
Now with your objective clearly in mind, the image of success will actually help to bring it
about. So there you have it. There is no doubt that you can be the man (or woman) with a plan.
