Maybe you didn’t score on those school IQ tests as well as your friends and you may have felt a little depressed because of it. If you didn’t have confidence that you would have the ability to make your life work satisfactorily, perhaps you were looking in the wrong place.
The place to look is to one of the multiple intelligences that you may not have known existed. How about your CQ, your creative intelligence. It has been proven many times that the talented IQ people lack the abilities of the CQ’s. And maybe your undiscovered talent lies in your EQ–your emotional intelligence or one of the other intelligences that come into view as you evaluate your talents and abilities.
What is necessary is to understand the importance of seeing your whole self and not just one component. Continuing to compare yourself to someone who may have scored better on a test or gotten higher college degree could make life more difficult. But perhaps the high achiever you are comparing yourself to does not navigate his life as well as you do. That is a question that won’t be found on the SATs but your answer to it might really show how much better you score in the game called life.
You probably have all the intelligences you need, and your talents and abilities in other areas that more than make up for what you think you might lack. Think about that and know that if you don’t start believing in yourself, the gifts you have may become a little stale. Don’t let a false belief keep you from forging ahead to make your world and the one we all share a better place.
