As you strive to understand the question, “How are your semantics?” perhaps you didn’t, know you had any. However, if you are alive and can speak or write you’ve got Semantics. It has to do with the meaning of words and the development of the ability to use them effectively. It involves the evolution of our language and with the continual expansion of word meanings.
In various combinations, words make up our ideas, give form to our ambitions, inspire our wisdom, shape our emotions and direct our actions. That being the case, it would seem that it would be profitable to give this some attention. It has been said that the skill that we are able to develop to use words can give us greater power than any other thing.
To deal with this, it will be profitable to create more associations, read high quality books and magazines. You can even develop your semantics in conversation with a young child. It will demonstrate how he/she gives meaning to the words you have spoken. It brings to mind the six-year-old who heard his mother tell the doctor that her son had Diarihea.. The 6-year-old with tears welling up his eyes asked his mother when he was going to die. ”.
Putting all of this together, we can give better meaning to our words by being more conscious of the way they are being expressed. You might call this using “some antics” to improve your semantics.
