Better Choices for High Noble Gold Alternatives

There are several choices when considering an alternative to high noble and noble PFM’s. Non-precious base metals like Tilite are great cost wise but may cause more trouble for your patient than it’s worth. Most non-precious metals contain Nickel. The problem with Nickel is nearly 50% of women are allergic to it. Nickel also causes “tattooing,” (blackening around the gum line.) There are non-precious options that do not contain Nickel like Chromium Cobalt. However, because Chromium Cobalt does not contain the softer metal Nickel, it is very hard and difficult to work with.

So what’s the answer? Cad/Cam milled, Porcelain Fused to Titanium.

Titanium is the most bio-compatible metal available. Even more so than High Noble Gold, which is only considered “bio-tolerable.” Your patients will not have allergic reactions to Titanium. Titanium doesn’t cause “tattooing.”

Because of today's milling technology (5 axis milling) margins are extremely accurate and precise.

Titanium is radiolucent.

Titanium gives higher insurance reimbursements. It is considered a precious metal by the ADA.

Titanium has set fees. No additional mark ups for metal weight.

Titanium has a high success rate.

Unique Dental pioneered the use of milled Titanium pfm’s and has a remake rate of only 1%.
