ARE YOU SURE WHAT WAS TAUGHT WAS LEARNED?

You know you said it in plain English but you may be mistaken in assuming that it was learned, understood and accepted.  One formula to help you gain that assurance involves three factors Recency, Frequency and Intensity.

1.  Recency.   Every person is like the storage battery that loses its power little by little and needs charging from time to time.  So repeats are needed.

2.  Frequency.  Each time a thought goes through the brain, it makes an imprint.  When the same thought goes through  the mind several times it turns into a groove and then a wide path.  Just as we don’t adopt new ideas or philosophies all at once, so we should not expect that a learner’s whole life is going to change as a consequence of a statement made once.

3. Intensity.  This has to do with a teacher’s use  of words with intensity and conviction   It has to do a with teacher’s conviction.  If the teacher has less than total conviction the effectiveness will be lacking.  The presenter can make the idea live by using interesting stories and illustrations.

The subject matter must be interesting and well organized to be effective.

It is thrilling to think that your ideas are worthy of  remembrance.  They will likely be that way if they are reinforced with recency, frequency and intensity.
