In the big band days there was a popular song titled “In the Mood.” The title asks a question that might be appropriate for any age and so why not now? To be authentic, we consulted with two PhD’s who have made a study of the effect of music on daily lives. Perhaps you will be interested in their findings. See if you might profit from what they have learned.
The first finding is that music can improve your productivity, boost your mood and even help you eat less if that is one of your goals.
So let’s start with the night time and work you into the day. People tend to put on very slow, calm songs when they want to sleep. The experts say it is more effective to start with music that matches the current pace of your mind and ease your way into slower music.
In the morning, songs with relatively fast tempo can help your mind to be ready to produce.
If you can control the atmosphere at lunchtime slow music that makes you happy is a good choice and the experts say that it may encourage you to eat more slowly and perhaps consume less and control your weight.
And now another thought about night. If you are driving at night or otherwise need to remain alert rather than thinking of going to bed, very fast-paced music is most effective.
So there you have it. Just follow these directions and you will enjoy being in the mood.
